Preparing For Your Yoga Class

There are some important things to know before you attend your first class at YogaHara.

Congratulations on enrolling in a YogaHara yoga class. We are looking forward to working with you to achieve your health and wellbeing goals. Yoga is for everyone. You don’t need experience or flexibility. Everyone works with their own body’s abilities on the day. There is no competition. Be kind to yourself. Listen to what your body is telling you. You can come out of a pose at any time; you don’t need to wait until the teacher says so.

The info below will help you to get the best experience from your Yoga practice.

Health Questionnaire

Before you attend your first class, fill in the Health Questionnaire. If anything changes in relation to your health please let your teacher know before class.

What you will need

As a minimum you will need a yoga mat. You can purchase a mat from a sports store or online. It should be a sticky mat rather than a soft exercise mat. You may also need a blanket, cushion or pillow, scarf, thick book or DVD box set (what else do you use them for these days?). At the start of the class we will let you know what you need for that day.

What to wear

Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in (or your PJs). You will be sitting on the floor and leaning forward and sometimes will be upside down a little so wear clothes that are comfortable for you to do all that in. We practice in bare feet.

What to do before your class

Avoid eating at least 1 hour prior to the class, 2 hours for a large meal. Some Yoga poses work on the abdominal area making you feel uncomfortable if the tummy is full. Any strong exercise after eating takes energy away from the digestive process.

Arriving

Please be on time, or a few minutes early. You will receive the link 15 minutes before the class start time. Once the class begins it may take the teacher a while to notice you in the waiting room, and once they do, it may be too late to admit you. We know that sometimes running late is unavoidable, in which case, please text us to let us know that you're on your way so that we don't lock you out, and enter slowly and quietly to avoid disrupting others.

About our Yoga

Gina teachers a therapeutic style of yoga. We focus on moving with the breath. We will practice physical postures and breathing practices, it also includes some meditation (depending on the class) and will end with relaxation.

Cancelling a class

If you are not able to attend your class, please cancel yourself out of the class. This will free up the space for someone else and will allow you to rebook another time. If you don’t cancel yourself out of a class you will lose that class credit.

Mobile phones

Please minimise your distractions by turn your mobile phone off and letting others in your house know what you’ll be doing, so they can respect your time and space.

We really hope you enjoy your class.
