Yoga therapy is about empowering you to manage your own health and wellbeing using the principles of Yoga within a safe therapeutic relationship. And a Yoga Therapist is a Yoga teacher who has had specific additional training in the therapeutic application of Yogic principles and bio medicine to facilitate that empowerment.
Yoga Therapy
Why have Yoga Therapy?
Yoga therapy looks at you as a whole person, rather than just as a symptom or condition and your Yoga Therapist will work with you to develop some practices that support your whole being.
Yoga Therapy can assist in addressing specific health needs by looking at you as a whole person. Together we develop a specific practice that assists you to tune in to your own needs within the parameters of your lifestyle. We use many of the principles of Yoga which may include, but is not limited to, asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, Yoga Nidra and the principles of a Yogic lifestyle.
What happens in a Yoga Therapy session?
A Yoga Therapy session is an individual consultation conducted in confidence. The therapist takes your history and does a full assessment. We discuss your lifestyle and your reason for seeking therapy. We then work together to develop a highly individualised practice to suit your needs. This usually takes 3 - 5 sessions or can be ongoing depending on your condition. There is also the expectation that you, as the client, commit 3+ days to the practice developed.
